An AWWA Financial, Legal and Management Communities Roundtable Program

The One Water approach to managing finite water resources is growing and evolving across the country as water utilities and communities of all sizes seek collaborative approaches to achieving sustainable and resilient water systems. This day-long roundtable will focus on three key components of any One Water program: the financial, legal, and management aspects involved in both visualizing and creating a successful One Water program.

Through moderated discussion sessions with leaders from the water utility, municipal, financial, legal, and consulting sectors attendees will hear about:

  • An overview of what One Water is, key components of a One Water program, the water resources and processes it encompasses, and One Water’s ability to improve water quality, reliability, and system resiliency
  • How utilities and communities have visualized, planned and established successful One Water programs
  • Key financial, legal, and management challenges they encountered and overcame
  • Financial resources available for developing and implementing a One Water program
  • The operational and financial benefits that One Water programs can (and are) producing
  • And a glimpse into the future of One Water programs as technology, AI, and innovative management practices continue to grow.

A moderated discussion by and between leaders from the financial, water utility, and regulatory communities on creating a framework for achieving a successful One Water program. Discussion will include key financial and management challenges water utilities have successfully managed in developing their One Water programs, various federal, state, municipal, and investor funding opportunities available to utilities and communities to support the evolution to a One Water framework, capital planning and asset management aspects of a successful One Water framework, and how One Water supports long-term municipal sustainability and equity.

This moderated discussion by and between leaders from the water utility, legal, and municipal sectors will look at key legal, management, and operational components that are making One Water programs both successful and sustainable across the U.S. Discussion topics will include the benefits utilities are realizing through their One Water programs, communicating with ratepayers and community leaders on the values of a One Water program, integration of various water sources into a singular One Water framework, legal aspects to establishing and maintaining a One Water program, and the roles that affordability and regional partnerships play in a One Water program.

Topics will include the roles of technology, innovation, AI, and proactive climate change preparedness in a One Water Program, as well as evolving management and operational techniques to address aging infrastructure, manpower and growing long-term supply and sustainability issues.
