Communities across North America celebrate Drinking Water Week 2025

American Water Works Association (AWWA) members are raising awareness about the importance of clean and safe drinking water and engaging their communities during the May 4-10 celebration of the annual Drinking Water Week.

From California to Wisconsin to New York, water utilities, government agencies, communities, schools and AWWA Sections are planning a host of activities to educate consumers about the science behind tap water and the professionals who ensure its safety and reliability.

A small sample of communities with upcoming Drinking Water Week events includes:

Marshfield, Wisconsin: Marshfield Utilities is hosting a Drinking Water Week Photo Contest, inviting local photographers to capture how water inspires them in everyday life, whether it is a pet enjoying a refreshing drink, a favorite place to sip a glass of water, or a creative expression featuring water.

Morrow, Georgia: The Clayton County Water Authority is offering behind the tap tours of its Terry R. Hicks Water Production Plant on Saturday, May 3, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

West Nyack, New York: Veolia is celebrating the designation of Lake DeForest as an AWWA American Water Landmark by hosting an unveiling event on its banks on May 8.

Missouri: The Missouri Department of Natural Resources and the AWWA Missouri Section are hosting a poster contest for Missouri fifth-graders.

Napa, California: The City of Napa is inviting the community to its Edward I. Barwick Jamieson Canyon Water Treatment Plant for a “Tap Water Day” Open House on Saturday, May 3. Attendees can see the equipment, processes and people that convert raw water from the Sacramento River Delta into clean, essential drinking water for Napa and other local cities.
