AWWA Comment Period on ANSI/AWWA D104 - Automatically Controlled, Impressed-Current Cathodic Protection for the Interior Submerged Surfaces of Steel Water Storage Tanks March 3, 2023 AWWA solicits public comments on all proposed new AWWA Standards, and on all proposed revisions, reaffirmations, or withdrawals of existing AWWA Standards. The referenced standards project is being considered for approval and the publication of this notice begins the 45-day public comment period for AWWA and ANSI. SCOPE This standard describes automatically controlled, impressed-current cathodic protection systems intended to minimize corrosion of interior submerged surfaces of steel water storage tanks and 30-in. (750-mm) diameter and larger wet risers of elevated tanks. MAJOR REVISIONS 1. Language regarding dissimilar metals inside the tank below the maximum water level (MWL) has been added (Sec. 4.1.1). Related commentary has been added to Sec. A.4. 2. Requirements for roof hand-hole configuration have been added (Sec. 220.127.116.11). 3. A new Appendix Section A.9 on Cathodic Protection Design Considerations for Water and Wastewater Treatment Applications has been added. 4. Numerous editorial revisions have been made throughout the standard to improve clarity.
