AWWA’s Journal AWWA magazine wins APEX Award
Journal AWWA, an official publication of the American Water Works Association, earned a Grand Award from the 2024 APEX Awards for Publication Excellence in the Magazines, Journals & Tabloids category for its September 2024 issue.
This is the 36th year for the annual APEX Awards program, presented by Communications Concepts, which recognizes excellence in graphic design, editorial content and the ability to achieve overall communications achievements.
The September 2024 issue of Journal AWWA featured a cover story on water affordability trends and a clever cover image inspired by the band Nirvana’s album, Nevermind. Other articles in the issue drew attention to water being a precious resource and the cycle of source water protection, treatment and distribution/disposal.
The award names Journal AWWA staff, including Kenneth L. Mercer, editor-in-chief; John R. Hughes, editor; and Scott A. McPherson, freelance art director.
“We are extremely appreciative of this wonderful recognition,” said Ken Mercer, editor-in-chief of Journal AWWA. “The Association couldn’t produce content like this without the tireless work and expertise of our volunteers. We hope winning this award helps shine a light on the important challenges facing water professionals.”
This marks the sixth consecutive year one of AWWA’s publications won an APEX Award. AWWA’s Opflow magazine had won five consecutive APEX Awards, including four consecutive Awards of Excellence for a series on a single topic/theme.
