Purpose of the Award:
Established in honor of Paula MacIlwaine’s significant contributions to AWWA, this award recognizes an AWWA staff member for outstanding accomplishments and excellence in service to the Association.
The Award
Recipients receive an elegant glass award with a personalized engraved nameplate commemorating their achievement. A permanent plaque honoring all recipients is also maintained at AWWA headquarters.
Frequency of the Award
As deserved, but not more than one annually.
Eligibility for the Award
Nominees must consistently demonstrate dedication and service to AWWA beyond their normal responsibilities, reflecting the vision, leadership, wisdom, grace, and mission-focused commitment exemplified by Paula MacIlwaine. Candidates should also be recognized as collaborative team players, effective communicators, and committed to providing exceptional service to AWWA members. Members of the AWWA Executive Staff are not eligible for the award.
Nomination Procedure
A completed nomination form must be submitted by an AWWA staff member to the CEO’s Office.
Entry Requirements
A completed nomination form and any supporting documentation, including letters of commendation, must be submitted for consideration by the Awards Committee.

Award Committee Membership
The Award Committee consists of the two most recent recipients of the Paula I. MacIlwaine Award, the Deputy CEO, Chief Membership Officer, Chief Financial Officer, and Executive Director of Government Affairs. The Deputy CEO serves as Committee Chair. In the event of a tie, the CEO shall serve as the tie-breaking vote.
Method of Selecting Award Recipient
The Award Committee reviews all eligible nominations and selects a nominee for the award. The committee’s recommendation is then submitted to the Executive Committee for final approval at its Winter Meeting.
Presentation of the Award
The award is presented at the AWWA Board of Directors meeting held immediately prior to the Annual Conference and Exposition (ACE).
