This manual describes the causes and prevention of backflow and cross-connections in potable water systems.

AWWA C510-17(R21) Double Check Valve Backflow Prevention Assembly

The purpose of this standard is to provide the minimum requirements for double check-valve backflow prevention assemblies for potable water applications, including materials, general and detailed design, workmanship, and shipping and delivery.

AWWA C510-17(R21) Double Check Valve Backflow Prevention Assembly (PDF)

The purpose of this standard is to provide the minimum requirements for double check-valve backflow prevention assemblies for potable water applications, including materials, general and detailed design, workmanship, and shipping and delivery.

AWWA C511-17(R21) Reduced-Pressure Principle Backflow Prevention Assembly

The purpose of this standard is to provide the minimum requirements for reduced-pressure principle backflow prevention assemblies for potable water applications, including materials, general and detailed design, workmanship, and shipping and delivery.

Backflow Prevention and Cross-Connection Control

Course Length: 2 Hours | 0.2 CEUs*Introduce learners to the concept of a backflow on potable water system and recognize backflow issues.

C510-89: AWWA Standard for Double Check Valve Backflow Prevention Assembly (PDF)

This standard covers the double check valve backflow prevention assembly. The assembly shall be capable of withstanding a working water pressure of at least 150 psi (1034 kPa) without damage to working parts or impairment of function and for operation on hot or cold water lines. This standard covers double check valve backflow prevention assemblies which are designed to operate with water at a temperature range of 33°F to 110°F (1°C to 43°C).

C510-92: AWWA Standard for Double Check Valve Backflow Prevention Assembly (PDF)

This standard covers the double check valve backflow-prevention assembly. The assembly shall be for operation on hot- or cold-water lines and capable of withstanding a working water pressure of at least 150 psi (1034 kPa) without damage to working parts or impairment of function.

C510-97: AWWA Standard for Double Check Valve Backflow Prevention Assembly (PDF)

This standard covers the double check valve backflow prevention assembly. The assembly shall be for operation on hot or cold water lines and capable of withstanding a working water pressure of at least 150 psi (1,034 kPa) without damage to working parts or impairment of function. This standard covers hot and cold water double check valve backflow prevention assemblies. All assemblies shall be designed to operate at a minimum temperature range of 33°F to 140°F (1°C to 60°C). Hot water assemblies shall be designed to, at a minimum, operate in water at a temperature range of 33°F to 180°F (1°C to 82°C). A complete assembly consists of two internally loaded, independently operating check valves, located between two tightly closing resilient-seated shutoff valves, with four properly placed resilient-seated test cocks.

AWWA C511-07 Reduced-Pressure Principle Backflow Prevention Assembly (PDF)

This standard describes the reduced-pressure principle backflow prevention assembly. The assembly shall be capable of withstanding a working water pressure of at least 150 psi (1,034 kPa) without damage to working parts or impairment of function and for operation on hot or cold water lines. This standard describes hot and cold water reduced-pressure principle backflow prevention assemblies. Assemblies shall be designed to operate, at a minimum, at a temperature range of 33°F to 140°F (1°C to 60°C). Hot water assemblies shall be designed to operate, at a minimum, in water at a temperature range of 33°F to 180°F (1°C to 82°C). A complete assembly consists of a mechanical, independently operating, hydraulically dependent relief valve located between two independently operating, internally loaded check valves that are located between two tightly closing resilient-seated shutoff valves with four properly placed resilient-seated test cocks (see Sec. 4.3.1.3).

AWWA C510-07 Double Check Valve Backflow Prevention Assembly (PDF)

This standard describes the double check valve backflow prevention assembly. The assembly shall be for operation on hot or cold water lines and capable of withstanding a working water pressure of at least 150 psi (1,034 kPa) without damage to working parts or impairment of function. This standard describes hot- and cold-water double check valve backflow prevention assemblies. Assemblies shall be designed to operate at a minimum temperature range of 33°F to 140°F (1°C to 60°C). Hot water assemblies shall be designed to operate, at a minimum, in water at a temperature range of 33°F to 180°F (1°C to 82°C). A complete assembly consists of two internally loaded, independently operating check valves, located between two tightly closing resilient-seated shutoff valves, with four properly placed resilient-seated test cocks (see Sec. 4.3.1.3).

AWWA C510-17 Double Check Valve Backflow Prevention Assembly (PDF)

This standard describes the double check-valve backflow prevention assembly for potable water applications. The assembly shall be capable of withstanding a working water pressure of at least 150 psi (1,034 kPa) without damage to working parts or impairment of function and for operation on hot or cold potable water lines.

AWWA C511-17 Reduced-Pressure Principle Backflow Prevention Assembly (PDF)

This standard describes the reduced-pressure principle backflow prevention assembly for potable water applications. The assembly shall be capable of withstanding a working water pressure of at least 150 psi (1,034 kPa) without damage to working parts or impairment of function and for operation on hot- or cold-water lines.
