AWWA Policy Statement on Youth Education

The American Water Works Association (AWWA) encourages service providers to develop youth education programs that address all aspects of the water cycle and the systems that support it. These educational investments help ensure that our future workforce will be better equipped to address the ever-increasing complexity of providing water services to customers.

Today’s youth are tomorrow’s hope. If today’s youth understand the full water cycle and its critical role in the environment; if they appreciate the importance of the water sector to public safety, the economy, and our quality of life; and if they recognize and value the role of utilities in providing these essential services; then they will be well equipped as citizens and stewards tomorrow.

AWWA is in an ideal position to encourage youth education programs related to water in all its forms. AWWA is committed to working with stakeholders to provide resources that address workforce development and inspire youth to pursue careers in the water profession.

Practices specified in this policy statement are consistent with all other pertinent AWWA policy statements.

Adopted by the Board of Directors Jan. 19, 2003, and revised June 2009, and June 2013, and January 2018.
