Purpose of the Award:
The AWWA Water Science Best Paper Award recognizes the author(s) of an outstanding paper published in AWWA Water Science from January through December of the previous year.
Eligibility for the Award
All peer-reviewed papers published in AWWA Water Science, with at least one author who is an AWWA member, are eligible.
The Award
An AWWA Water Science Best Paper Award plaque.
Frequency of the Award
The AWWA Water Science Best Paper is awarded annually.
Entry Requirements
All papers eligible for the award are automatically considered.
Nomination Consideration
Since all papers meeting the eligibility requirements are considered for the award, there are no nomination procedures or considerations. Any papers submitted to AWWA Water Science in a calendar year are automatically considered.

Award Committee Membership
The Water Science & Research Division chair shall appoint three members and a chair from the division, subject to concurrence by the division Board of Trustees, to serve as the division award committee. The division chair is authorized to appoint a replacement for any committee member who has a conflict of interest.
Method of Selecting Best Paper
The staff shall compile all eligible papers and assign them to the Water Science & Research Division. The judges shall rate papers assigned to it by using a five-point scale across four categories. The completed ratings are submitted to the division staff advisor for tabulation.
Presentation of the Award
The AWWA Water Science Best Paper Award will be presented annually at the AWWA Water Quality Technology Conference.
