We invite you to help AWWA meet our sustainability goals by taking part in the 2025 ACE Exhibitor Sustainability Pledge.

By sharing your sustainability efforts with us (and maybe adopting a new idea or two!), you are helping ACE reduce our impact on the planet and create a positive legacy.

Please select all the best practices you plan to follow at ACE25. We encourage your company to commit to at least one action per section to earn representation on our Sustainability and Impact Pledge Participant listing.

1. Company Sustainability helps shape our goals and initiatives for ACE. Let us know what your company is doing in the realm of sustainability:

Our company has an active Environmental or Social Sustainability Policy.

2. Travel is one of the main contributors to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions at events. To mitigate this impact, ACE offers all participants the opportunity to offset your travel emissions. Let us know how your company plans to reduce its carbon footprint when attending the conference:

Using public transportation or car-share as much as possible.

Choosing economy class and non-stop flights, as they are generally more fuel-efficient.

Choosing accommodations that are within walking distance of the show or have easy access to conference shuttles.

Offsetting the GHG emissions of travel through the ACE-provided platform or another reputable and verified platform *.

Sending only the true number of staff needed to reduce travel emissions.

3. Energy Conservation: The amount of energy your exhibit/booth consumes is something you can easily influence. Let us know how your company plans to reduce its energy consumption when attending the conference:

Using either LED or compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs).

Using Energy Star rated monitors, projectors, and other equipment.

Powering down all displays, monitors and booth lighting each night after conference/setup hours. If equipment cannot be shut down, it will be put into sleep mode during non-conference hours.

Waste

Reducing waste also reduces greenhouse gas emissions and can save you money. AWWA is committed to reducing our waste at ACE and increasing our diversion rate from the local landfill. In 2025 we are greatly reducing foamcore for our signs, and we invite your company to do the same. Let us know how your company plans to reduce waste when attending the conference.

4. Waste: Booth Build & Graphics

Reusing display elements from past exhibitions or saving elements to reuse at future exhibitions.

Rent trade show booth materials locally instead of buying and shipping your own.

Use local vendors for booth setup and support.

Designing graphics for reuse by avoiding dates or specific information and ensuring they can be taken down and stored for reuse.

Avoiding foamcore and printing on more sustainable substrates such as Falconboard (also called Honeycomb), card stock, paper board, or other recyclable, paper-based materials.

Reskin older trade show frames and fixtures rather than ordering new each year.

Ensure that supplies brought to the show – from pens and notepads to paper towels and cleaning products – are environmentally friendly.

5. Waste: Shipping & Packaging:

Consolidating shipments into a single shipment.

Avoiding Polystyrene in booth shipment (i.e., packing peanuts, Styrofoam, #6 or foam plastic).

Using biodegradable or recyclable packing material.

Reusing padding materials and exhibit crates for shipping during move-out.

Company has program to offset GHG emissions of exhibit/material shipping.

6. Waste: Marketing Materials

Not producing literature that has a one-time use.

Using 100% recyclable or 50%+ post-consumer recycled content paper for all printed materials.

Provide digital marketing materials rather than physical copies, including business cards.

Not distributing promo items; avoiding items/gifts that will ultimately contribute to the overall waste of the event.

Giveaways are made of recycled material, responsibly grown natural fiber, non-toxic and biodegradable materials, or made in the host country.

Giveaways are sourced from a company which is BIPOC-, woman- or minority-owned, or provides a positive social good.

Electronic giveaways are made with replaceable or repairable parts.

Food & Beverages

The food and drinks we consume, and their packaging, have an impact on the environment. AWWA is committed to reducing plastic and cardboard waste by providing alternatives to bottled/boxed water, including numerous refill stations throughout the convention center and possible water trailers from our local utility partners. We encourage you to join us in using these refillable water options and minimizing bottled/boxed water on the show floor.

7. Let us know how you use food & beverage in your booth:

We do not order, bring in, or distribute any food or beverage at our booth.

We order catered food and/or beverages for our booth staff only.

We order catered food and/or beverages to offer to booth visitors.

We bring in packaged drinks or food items to offer to booth visitors.

7A. Catering: Let us know how you plan to reduce the environmental impact of your catering orders:

Choosing plant-forward items. Meat has a higher carbon footprint than plant-based foods.

Not ordering water or other beverages in plastic bottles or cardboard boxes, and instead ordering water coolers/pitchers with reusable or compostable cups and/or beverages in aluminum or compostable packaging.

Ordering F&B items with little or no packaging.

Choosing reusable serviceware (china) for all catering orders. This includes cups, utensils, and plates.

Choosing compostable serviceware for all catering orders, including branded napkins.

Not distributing water in single-use plastic bottles or cardboard boxes.
