Scholarship FAQ

AWWA Scholarship Program FAQ

What types of scholarships are offered through the AWWA Scholarship program?
Scholarships are offered for undergraduate and graduate studies in water research, engineering, finance, IT, legal, communications and policy. Each corporate sponsored scholarship has its own application and there is one common application for the water research scholarships offered by AWWA, except for the J & L Presidential Research Scholarship which requires its own separate application.

What are the basic qualifications for a scholarship?
The AWWA Scholarship program awards scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students attending accredited universities and colleges in North America who meet the requirements of each individual scholarship. International students attending a university or college in North America also qualify for a scholarship.

Students must be planning to attend school in the Fall 2024-Spring 2025 academic year, and funds will be paid directly to the institution.

Research Scholarship applicants only: You must be pursuing a degree at an institution of higher education located in the U.S., Canada, Guam, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Korea, India, Jordan or Peru.

J & L Presidential Research Scholarship: You must be pursuing a degree at a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) in the USA.

Do I need letters of recommendation for my application?
AWWA Research applications require two letters of reference for LARS (Masters and PhD), Dr. Philip C. Singer, James K. Edzwald Scholarship, J & L Presidential Research Scholarship, and three letters of references for the Abel Wolman fellowship. You will not be required to upload the letters at the time of submitting your application. You will be contacted in early 2024 if you are a top finalist for the Research Scholarships and will be asked to provide letters at that time.

Corporate scholarship applications do not require a letter of reference with the application, but top candidates will be contacted in January 2024 to provide a letter of recommendation.

What are the important deadlines I should remember?
Scholarship applications must be submitted by December 19, 2023.

If I apply for more than one scholarship, is my professor/advisor/boss going to receive multiple requests for a letter of recommendation?
Only one request will be made for a letter of recommendation for all corporate scholarships for which you are a top candidate.

I started my application and can’t go back to finish it. The website says I can only nominate once per scholarship. How do I finish my application?
