Sustainable water future on agenda at WaterSmart Innovations

2024 WaterSmart Innovations conferenceAn array of creative solutions and technologies for managing, protecting and conserving water will be presented at the American Water Works Association’s (AWWA) WaterSmart Innovations (WSI) 2024 conference and exhibit Sept. 24-26 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This year’s event at the South Point Hotel, Casino & Spa features broader educational programming on sustainability and water resource planning and protection, as well as a new workshop to connect and engage younger water professionals and students.

Veronica Blette“These changes reflect our commitment to build on the foundational water efficiency focus of WSI by offering the latest insights into how to address water scarcity, climate variability and source water protection challenges faced by many water systems,” said Veronica Blette, WaterSense program manager with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, chair of the AWWA Water Conservation Division and co-chair of the WSI planning committee. 

Thomas DummThomas Dumm, senior technical manager with Ramboll, is also co-chair of the WSI planning committee.

“In future years we plan to host WSI in a variety of locations and continue to offer forward-looking technical content and innovative solutions to advance a more sustainable water future,” he said.

The 2024 program and exhibit include workshops, presentations and discussions about resiliency planning and analysis, integrated resource planning and alternate water supplies, along with customer incentive programs, water conservation engagement and water workforce retention and management.

Keynote speaker Travis Loop, founder of the “waterloop” podcast and media outlet, will discuss current trends in water sustainability solutions, including success stories from across the United States.

Southern Nevada Water Authority, a leader in sustainable and adaptive water management, founded WSI in 2008. In 2022, AWWA became a partner in presenting the annual event.
