AWWA solicits public comments on all proposed new AWWA Standards, and on all proposed revisions, reaffirmations, or withdrawals of existing AWWA Standards. The referenced standards project is being considered for approval and the publication of this notice begins the 45-day public comment period for AWWA and ANSI. An electronic public review copy of the proposed standard can be obtained for review during the comment period by emailing ETS Support (ETSsupport@awwa.org). Comments must be submitted in writing to the AWWA contact listed below no later than the last day of the comment period specified herein. Such comments shall be specific to the section(s) of the standard under review and include sufficient detail so as to enable the reader to understand the commenter’s position, concerns and suggested alternative language, if appropriate.

The review copy will be edited for publication and may also be revised as appropriate based on any comments received during the public comment period. Therefore, this copy is not suitable for continued utilization and is intended only for comment purposes.
Final publication of the standard may take several months. When it is available, a notice will be published in the official notice section of Journal – American Water Works Association. The standard becomes an effective AWWA standard on the first day of the month following such publication in Journal – American Water Works Association.
SCOPE
This standard describes the material, application, and curing of shop-applied cement–mortar protective linings and coatings for steel water pipe and fittings and field jointing of cement–mortar-lined-and-coated steel water pipe and fittings.
MAJOR REVISIONS
The major revisions to this edition of the standard are summarized as follows:
1. Updated Sec. I.C. Acceptance in the Foreword with the latest Standards Council boilerplate language reflecting the addition of reference to NSF/ANSI/CAN 372 and NSF/ANSI/CAN 600.
2. Ten new definitions were added to Sec. 3 based on ACI CT20 ACI Concrete Terminology and the definitions for potable water, reclaimed water and wastewater were added.
3. Sec. 4.1.3 Compliance was updated with the latest Standards Council boilerplate language and language regarding NSF 61 compliance was added.
4. Sec. 4.2.7 Primer was deleted.
5. In Sec. 4.4.3 Thickness, additional guidance on thickness measurements were added.
6. Table 1 was updated to include tolerance categories for diameters over 72 in.
7. Several sections were reorganized moving language to the appropriate location.
8. A new Sec. 4.4.5.3.1 was added for placement temperature of machine lining.
9. In Sec. 4.4.5.4 Finish, a description of laitance was added
10. Sec. 4.4.5.6 Lining ends was revised.
11. Sec. 4.4.7 Lining quality and Sec. 4.4.8 Repair of lining were updated to include improved descriptions of flaws and cracks. Additional guidance was added to clarify acceptance or need of repair.
12. Sec. 5.1.1 Sampling and testing frequency, and Sec. 5.1.2 Cement-mortar test cylinders were updated to be consistent with ASTM standards.
