AWWA’s Publications team is looking for someone with the technical skills to redraw, retouch, edit, create, prepare for print or web, catalogue, and manage technical art for our publications, as well as someone with an understanding of how photos, illustrations, and data visualizations help tell a story and explain complex technical concepts. This person will be responsible for collecting and managing art for AWWA Standards, Manuals of Practice, periodicals, and other publications.

 Job Summary
Work with editorial, production, and engineering teams to ensure all art is accounted for and properly prepared to go to our production vendors for standards, manuals, periodicals and other publishing products.

Recreate/redraw existing art or create new art that may be out of date to satisfy technical illustrations and specifications in terms of resolution, size, and quality.

Edit and prepare photos for print and/or on-line platforms.

Help research and prepare photos for use in our periodicals.
Lead an initiative within the Publications department to manage and catalogue our digital assets. This may involve employing digital asset management software, tagging images and other art, and setting a governance policy for how we manage our digital assets.

Qualifications
Associate’s degree in related area required or equivalent combination of education and experience in graphic design, illustration, or visual journalism.  Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Minimum of four (4) years professional experience in creative field required including but not limited to redraw, retouch, edit, create, prepare for print or web, catalogue, and manage technical art.

Advanced skills with the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, particularly Photoshop and Illustrator and proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook required

Experience in book or magazine publishing strongly preferred or ability to demonstrate an understanding of how visual content related to written content.

Experience working with technical subject matter preferred (e.g. -  mathematics, engineering, medicine, biological or physical sciences)

Familiarity with digital asset management tools is strongly preferred or willingness and interest to learn. 

Compensation is dependent upon qualifications. Targeted salary range is $55,000 - $58,000 and is paired with comprehensive benefits package that includes:
Immediate eligibility and vesting for retirement savings plan with a 6% employer contribution and 3% company match upon hire
Generous time off including three separate accounts (Vacation, Sick, and Personal)
