AWWA Standards represent a consensus of the water industry and are developed by following procedures defined by committees under the AWWA Standards Council and accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

AWWA is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) as an approved standards developing organization for the water industry.

Accreditation signifies that procedures used by AWWA in connection with the development of ANSI meet the Institute's Essential Requirements for openness, balance, consensus and due process.

Standard Methods is a mutually produced publication by American Water Works Association (AWWA), the American Public Health Association (APHA), and the Water Environment Federation (WEF) that outlines the analytical techniques for the determination of water quality.
