This article discusses how a Lewisville, Indiana, water treatment plant installed an ozone system to upgrade the existing plant without raising water rates. The article discusses the ozone process, how it removed residual iron from the plant and distribution system, decreasing chlorine use, cost benefits, and reduction in maintenance and management. Drawbacks of using ozone are mentioned along with methods for solving them and its suitability for small systems is pointed out.
