Community Engineering Corps
About the Program
For a decade, Community Engineering Corps has utilized the collective technical expertise, volunteer networks, and resources of our founding partners the American Society of Civil Engineers, AWWA, and Engineers Without Borders-USA — powerhouses in the infrastructure and development sectors — to provide crucial engineering consulting services to underserved communities across the U.S.
What is the program all about? Community Engineering Corps brings together underserved communities across the U.S. in need of technical support and teams of volunteers from our founding partner network that are dedicated to engineering with empathy. Services provided span the civil infrastructure sector, including: drinking water, wastewater, structural, transportation, stormwater, site development, geotechnical, agricultural, and energy.

“I have found my work with the [Community Engineering Corps] to be interesting and fulfilling. There is a definite need for professional engineering help on projects for underserved communities that cannot afford the technical staff needed to ensure their projects’ success. The CEC provides this engineering assistance and many projects for underserved communities would go undone without its involvement.”

“There are great many underserved communities in the U.S. who are currently experiencing some of the same water and wastewater issues as do those in some [developing] countries. By volunteering with Community Engineering Corps, you can use the expertise you have gained throughout your career to the tremendous benefit of those less fortunate. The personal and professional satisfaction of giving back to these communities is unparalleled.”

AWWA Illinois Section, Community Engineering Corps Project Team Member
“Working exclusively with small water systems in California for the past few years has provided a greater understanding of the challenges they face to provide safe water in sufficient volumes at price their community can afford. Community Engineering Corps can aide these systems to take the necessary steps to achieve what they all desire, a return to compliance and sense of confidence in their drinking water supply.”
