The One AWWA Operator Scholarship was created to address the present and future need for Operators by providing training and educational funding. Matching dollars from the Association and participating Sections will be used to generate the award for these new Operator scholarships. This opportunity for further collaboration between the Section and AWWA has its roots in the AWWA Strategic Plan and the AWWA2020: One AWWA Report.

Sections wishing to participate must complete and return an agreement (PDF). Participating Sections should use the standard One AWWA Operator Scholarship application form. This form is available for distribution by print and posting on Section websites in two formats: PDF and DOC. The form has areas in which Sections may insert their own logo, cite the award amount and deadline and outline the selection and award process.

Section Services' hosted a webinar. The webinar recording addresses program details, logistics and other considerations for adopting and implementing this new scholarship.

For more information, email Michelle Hektor, AWWA Sr. Manager Donor Relations and Development.

Logos & Guidelines

AWWA'S WATER EQUATION CO-BRANDING GUIDELINES AND LOGO USAGE

The One AWWA Operator Scholarship is a partnership between the Section and AWWA’s Water Equation. Therefore, all promotional materials or communications must be co-branded, regardless of format. If you choose to use the Section logo, then both the Water Equation logo and the Section logo should be used in that communication. When using logos, they should be equal in placement and size. If logos are not used in the communication, then the following wording should be used: “The Intermountain Section and AWWA's Water Equation’s One AWWA Operator Scholarship.”

When using AWWA's Water Equation logo, use full color process printing methods when possible. You may also use the logo in solid black or white. When applying the logo, it is important to leave a measured amount of clear space around the logo to maintain optimum legibility. The clear area is proportional, relative to the size of the logo, and is measured by the height of the icon (X). Always maintain a minimum of “X” of breathing room around the logo. Keep this area clear of other elements such as text, rule lines, page edits, etc. More space is always preferred. This clear area standard applies to all logo formats.

Fundraising Ideas

Section Fundraising Ideas

Fundraising can take many forms and be an ongoing activity of the Section and its volunteers.  Below are a few examples of what a Section can do to raise funds for their One AWWA Operator Scholarship program.

  1. Hold a silent auction at your annual conference.  Ask your vendors, board members and committee chairs to donate auction items such as gift baskets, trips and unique items for conference attendees to bid on.
  2. Hold a golf outing or add this scholarship as a benefactor to an existing golf outing.
  3. Host a VIP luncheon or dinner with a guest speaker.
  4. Place a donate button on your website where members and non-members can easily donate to the scholarship general fund or to a specific scholarship of their choice.
  5. Host a bean bag toss competition at your annual conference.
  6. Host a poker night.
  7. Provide a significant silent auction item to AWWA's Water Equation Online Auction during June of each year and receive 50% of the net proceeds back for your scholarship program.
  8. During you Annual Conference fill a large jar with jellybeans, M&Ms, pennies or other items.  Attendees buy chances to guess how many items are in the jar and the winner and runner up win valuable prizes that were donated by your vendors.
