Sharing knowledge key to better world through better water February 23, 2022Connections Article, Publications Creating a better world through better water has long been the vision of the American Water Works Association (AWWA). By sharing resources with water partners across the globe, both in-person and virtually, the Association has realized the benefits of exchanging knowledge and providing forums for international water professionals to discuss innovative practices. This experience has shaped AWWA’s objectives in India, where in 2015 it began building its first community of water professionals outside of North America to promote the reliable and safe delivery of quality water services. Recently, this initiative entered a new phase with the creation of AWWAIndia Association, a not-for-profit organization located in India. AWWAIndia Association will build on the foundation created by AWWAIndia by focusing on advancing water utility management practices in India. AWWAIndia Association has established the following objectives: Increase opportunities to create, exchange and transfer knowledge and build capacity to improve the operations of water systems in India Support nationally-recognized certification/licensing of water professionals from engineers to operators. Leverage resources to provide greater value to water professionals in India. Work in partnership with the public and private sectors to advance and enhance policy development for the water sector in India. This year, AWWAIndia Association plans to develop a three-year strategic plan, conduct several webinars on various aspects of water related issues and hold a 2022 annual conference in Hyderabad Dec. 11-13. The newly-established nonprofit also will work with student chapters and create additional academic collaborations to advance the development of future leaders in the Indian water sector.
