AWWA digital, printed resources honored by communications associations

An AWWA whiteboard explainer video, a series of magazine articles, a report summary, and a journal redesign all earned awards from two associations recognizing excellence and leadership in media, publishing, marketing and communications.

  • EXCEL Awards, presented annually by Association Media & Publishing to recognize associations and their industry partners for print and digital content in books, journals, digital media, magazines, newsletters, newspapers and promotional content
  • APEX Awards, which recognize professional communicators for excellence in graphic design, editorial content and the ability to achieve overall communications excellence in publishing

The resources were developed to share water-related information with AWWA members, water sector partners and consumers.

AWWA received a 2020 silver EXCEL award for its animated whiteboard explainer, “Together, Let’s Get the Lead Out.” The three-minute video (including above image), posted on YouTube, helps consumers protect their households by identifying sources of lead and taking steps to address potential health risks. There are many additional resources on AWWA’s Lead resource page.

2019 State of the Water Industry Report Executive SummaryThe Association also received a bronze EXCEL award for its 2019 State of the Water Industry Report Executive Summary. AWWA publishes this annual report and Executive Summary to help water utilities, service providers, regulators and researchers identify and prepare for challenges, opportunities and trends impacting the water community. The reports, including the newly-released 2020 report and Executive Summary, are available on AWWA’s State of the Water Industry resource page.

AWWA was presented a 2020 APEX Award of Excellence for articles about Legionella that appeared as a magazine series in three issues of Opflow. Also, Journal AWWA received a 2020 Award of Excellence in the “Best Redesigns” category for its 2019 design update.

“One of AWWA’s driving principles is to collect and share water sector knowledge, and we work continuously to offer quality educational opportunities and materials to our members, consumers and the total water community,” said AWWA CEO David LaFrance. “We are honored to receive these awards; importantly, they reinforce that AWWA’s members are the leaders who ensure excellence in the management of water.”
