AWWA Comment Period closed on July 8, 2019. Send comments to: Stephanie Passarelli 303.347.6245 phone 303.795.7603 fax The review copy will be edited for publication and may also be revised as appropriate based on any comments received during the public comment period. Therefore, this copy is not suitable for continued utilization and is intended only for comment purposes. Final publication of the standard may take several months. When it is available, a notice will be published in the official notice section of Journal - American Water Works Association. The standard becomes an effective AWWA standard on the first day of the month following such publication in Journal - American Water Works Association. SCOPE This standard describes 3-in. through 64-in. (80-mm through 1,600-mm)8F[1] ductile-iron compact fittings to be used with ductile-iron pipe or pipe made of other materials with similar outside diameters for conveying potable water, wastewater and reclaimed water. Minimum working pressures by size range are as follows: 3 in. through 24 in. (80 mm through 600 mm): 350 psi (2,413 kPa); 30 in. through 48 in. (750 mm through 1,200 mm): 250 psi (1,724 kPa); and 54 in. through 64 in. (1,400 mm through 1,600 mm): 150 psi (1,034 kPa). Fittings are adequate for the rated working pressure plus a surge allowance of 100 psi or a surge allowance of half the rated working pressure, whichever is less. Fittings with mechanical joints are listed in this standard for the 3-in. through 64-in. (80-mm through 1,600-mm) sizes. The standard also may be used for fittings of these sizes with push-on joints or other joints as agreed on at the time of purchase. Fittings with push-on joints and flanged joints are listed in this standard for the 54-in. through 64-in. (1,400-mm through 1,600-mm) sizes. Fittings with flange joints are not discussed in this standard for sizes 3 in. through 48 in. (80 mm through 1,200 mm) because of the importance of standardized center-to-flange face dimensions for these sizes already described in ANSI9F[2]/AWWA C110/A21.10. Fittings with plain ends are listed for bends and reducers of the 3-in. through 64-in. (80-mm through 1,600-mm) size range and for tees and crosses of the 54-in. through 64-in. (1,400-mm through 1,600-mm) size range. MAJOR REVISIONS The major revisions in this edition of ANSI/AWWA C153/A21.53 are as follows: 1. Added content on Chloramine and Chloramine Elastomers in the Foreword (See Section II.F). 2. Section 1.1, added 54, 60, and 64-inch mechanical joint fittings in tables 1, 3, 6, 7, 8. 3. Sec. 4.3.1.1, 4.3.1.2, and 4.5.3, weight was removed as a requirement. Weights were retained in tables for informational purposes. 4. Sec. 4.4.3 on special coatings and linings was revised to remove reference to one specific asphaltic material lining. 5. Sec. 5.2.1.2 was modified to add 65-45-12 as a standard grade of iron.
