Water Conservation Education Arts Program, City of Tampa Water Department - Water conservation education programs are implemented in cooperation with the City of Tampa Water Department and the Hillsborough County School Board. Hillsborough County public and private school students participate in a water conservation theater presentation and learn from workbooks linked to Sunshine State Standards for grades K-1, 2-3, 4-5 and middle school. Components of the program include student activity books, teachers' guides and teacher training.

Water Conservation Program, Town of Cary, North Carolina - an affluent suburb just west of Raleigh. Cary's population has more than doubled over the past ten years from 43,858 in 1990 to 96,217 in 2000, placing a significant strain on the town's water resources. In addition to conserving water by reducing summer peak day demand, the Town of Cary's water conservation program focuses on reducing per capita water consumption by 20 percent by the year 2020. Staff uses a multifaceted management approach with voluntary, incentive, and regulatory mechanisms to address both supply-side and demand-side conservation.

Water Conservation Program Parade Unit Sponsorship, City of Durham Environmental Resources Department - Among many successful educational programs that we conduct, one of the most unique and enjoyable is our sponsorship of a walking unit in Durham's annual Holiday Parade. We work with local schools (including a biosphere magnet school that primarily serves economically disadvantaged students) to create costumes and signs that focus on water conservation. Schools that participate receive presentations and support from conservation staff to educate and inspire the students. Students complete much of their work in their art and science classes. Once complete, they wear their created outfits as they march in Durham's Holiday Parade and pass their conservation message on to parade viewers.

Water Sourcebook Series, The Georgia Water Wise Council - The Council coordinates a network of local public/private partnerships to make the Water Sourcebook Series available to teachers. The council does this by: 1) publishing the WSS; 2) conducting a train-the-trainer program; and 3) coordinating a sponsorship program for the purchase of the sourcebooks.

Get WET (Water Efficient Toilet) Toilet Rebate Program, Sarasota County Environmental Services Utility -To provide a monetary incentive for homeowners to replace their existing high-volume toilets with 1.6 gallons-per-flush water efficient toilets. This reduces consumption of customers and thus reduces the demand on the source.

A Motorized Water Conservation Message, Sarasota County Environmental Services Utility - In December 1998, a creative and innovative water conservation effort was inaugurated. A county transit bus, covered in vinyl depicting a water conserving landscape with enlargements of native, drought-tolerant plants, took to local streets.

In-School Education Program, Southwest Florida Water Management District - The In-School Education Program consists of mini-grants for hands-on classroom projects, such as water-conserving gardens; a middle/high school and an elementary water resources newsletter; water conservation training for teachers; field trips; summer camp programs; and water conservation curricula.

Showerhead Exchange, Southwest Florida Water Management District - Wishing to educate the public about improvements in current showerheads, as well as to conserve water, Sarasota County Utilities invited customers to bring in old, water-wasting showerheads and exchange them for deluxe water-efficient massage models, as long as supplies were available. Within two days, all 2,000 showerheads were exchanged. Because the program was such a success, it was repeated in 2001 and will be conducted again in 2002. The purpose of an exchange rather than a "give away" was to ensure that the water-conserving showerheads would actually get installed.

Water Matters Restaurant Campaign, Southwest Florida Water Management District - The Southwest Florida Water Management District's "Water Matters" campaign showcases restaurant specialty items featuring water-saving tips. These materials aid in educating Florida residents and visitors about Florida's water resources. Currently there are almost 50 restaurants participating in the program. These materials are available to restaurants within our 16-county district at no charge. Program components include table tents, coasters, children's activity sheet, stickers, bookmarks, mirror stickers and pins.

Learning to be WaterWise Harris-Galveston Coastal Subsidence District - The Learning to be WaterWise program targets fifth-grade students, combining classroom education activities with hands-on home projects to build knowledge and awareness of water issues and impacts.
