Information technology (IT) and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system
technologies continue to converge every year. Most water and wastewater utilities
and other critical infrastructures rely on such systems to support mission-critical activities
and have dedicated staff to support them. Although the underlying technologies
have converged, the groups responsible for governing and maintaining the IT and SCADA
infrastructures often remain separate, and most organizations do not have the mechanisms
that enable easy interaction between the two groups.
