About the Industry
Industry Trends
The AWWA State of the Industry (SOTI) survey, which was launched in 2004, recognizes and tracks significant trends in the water industry. The SOTI identifies critical concerns and gauges water professionals' perception of the relative health of the industry. This helps the industry prioritize programs and services and provides an industry-wide forum addressing essential water issues.
In 2004, the most critical issues facing the water profession included regulatory factors, security, business factors (especially funding), source water supply, and water storage/distribution. Despite the major challenges confronting them, however, water professionals consider the industry to be relatively sound overall.
