International Water Treatment Alliance (IWTA)“Improving Water Quality Has No Boundaries”
What is the International Water Treatment Alliance? The Alliance is a cooperative effort of the American Water Works Association (AWWA), water utilities, and in some cases, foreign water organizations dedicated to safe drinking water. Participating utilities voluntarily adopt proven operational and administrative practices designed to improve treatment plant performance. They achieve improved water quality by using flexible technical tools that allow each plant to identify ways to enhance performance that are unique to their own situation. The Alliance is based on the U.S. Partnership for Safe Water program that includes more than 200 utilities since it began in 1995. The results are proven and documented. The international programme takes the best of the U.S. program and has adjusted it for worldwide application. To join the Alliance, fill out the Membership Application and pay your initiation fee. Utilities may join any time during the year but the fee is the same. Utilities may enroll as many plants as they want and there is a fee for each plant. Membership fees are priced so everyone can join and are based on treatment plant size. There is a discount for low income countries. After the first year, the annual fee is reduced for those plants continuing the program. Volunteer support keeps the program extremely cost-effective. Each treatment plant enrolled in the IWTA receives a Certificate of Participation. This certificate is from AWWA and the applicable partnership organization. IWTA Awards programThe AWWA IWTA offers Water Treatment Excellence Awards to water treatment plants that demonstrate good performance. These awards are only available to utilities outside the U.S. The program is based on the proven goals of the U.S Partnership for Safe Water program. You must submit a completed award application (below) by March 15 of each year to be eligible for the previous year annual award. Save, complete and email the following writable Word forms to blauer@awwa.org Plants located in Quebec Province (Canada) which are already members of the local Programme d'Excellence based on AWWA Partnership for Safe Water and operated under license by the Quebec AWWA section may apply to complete the Programme d'Excellence.
