AWWA Scholarships

AWWA awards the following scholarships annually. AWWA posts new application forms every summer. AWWA also provides an annual Academic Achievement Award, with applications due each year by October 1. For additional information contact Linda Moody at 303.347.6201 or lmoody@awwa.org.

AWWA Scholarships

  • Abel Wolman Fellowship
    The Abel Wolman Fellowship is designed to support promising doctoral students in the U.S., Canada and Mexico pursuing advanced training and research in the field of water supply and treatment.
    Support: Up to $25,000, renewable for a second year
    Deadline: January 15 annually
  • Larson Aquatic Research Support (LARS)
    The Larson Aquatic Research Support scholarship provides support for doctoral and masters students interested in careers in the fields of corrosion control, treatment and distribution of domestic and industrial water supplies, aquatic chemistry, and/or environmental chemistry.
    Support (Masters): $5,000 one-time grant
    Support (Doctoral): $7,000 one-time grant
    Deadline: January 15 annually
  • Thomas R. Camp Scholarship
    Sponsored by Camp Dresser and McKee, Inc., the Thomas R. Camp Scholarship provides support to outstanding graduate students doing applied research in the drinking water field.
    Support: $5,000 one-time grant
    Deadline: January 15 annually
  • Holly A. Cornell Scholarship
    Sponsored by CH2M Hill, the Holly A. Cornell Scholarship encourages and supports outstanding female and/or minority masters students in pursuit of advanced training in the field of water supply and treatment. CH2M Hill will assist the recipient with travel costs to the AWWA annual conference where the award will be presented.
    Support: $7,500 one-time grant
    Deadline: January 15 annually
  • American Water Scholarship
    American Water is providing graduate level support to assist the development of professionals interested in service to the water industry.
    Support: $5,000 one-time grant
    Deadline: January 15 annually
  • Black & Veatch - Building a World of Difference Scholarship
    Provides support to an undergraduate student seeking a degree in the water industry.
    Support: $5,000 one-time grant
    Deadline: January 15 annually
  • Carollo Engineers Inc. Scholarship - NEW for 2012
    Provides support to a masters student engaging in water-energy nexus issues for water, wastewater or water use.
    Support: $5,000 one-time grant
    Deadline: January 15 annually
  • Malcolm Pirnie Graduate Scholarship
    Provides support to a masters or doctoral candidate student seeking a degree in the water industry.
    Support: $5,000 one-time grant
    Deadline: January 15 annually
  • MWH Scholarship
    Provides support to a masters student seeking a degree in the water industry.
    Support: $5,000 one-time grant
    Deadline: January 15 annually
  • Charles “Chick” Roberts Scholarship
    The scholarship sponsored by The Roberts Filter Group, provides a one-time grant of $5,000 to a student pursuing a graduate degree at Pennsylvania State University in the water science field.
    Support: $5,000 one-time grant
    Deadline: January 15 annually
  • Hazen and Sawyer Scholarship - NEW for 2012
    Sponsored by Hazen and Sawyer, this scholarship was established to benefit students seeking a master's degree in the water science field. Hazen and Sawyer will assist the recipient with travel costs to the AWWA annual conference where the award will be presented.
    Support: $5,000 one-time grant
    Deadline: January 15 annually
  • HDR/Henry "Bud" Benjes Scholarship - NEW for 2012
    Sponsored by HDR, this scholarship provides support to a masters student seeking a degree in the water industry.
    Support: $5,000 one-time grant
    Deadline: January 15 annually
  • Mueller Systems Scholarship - NEW for 2012
    Provides one-time support to a graduate  student seeking a degree in material sciences and physics with a strong interest in sustainability and water infrastrucure. Mueller Water Products Company will assist the recipient with travel costs to the AWWA annual conference where the award will be presented.
    Support: $5,000 one-time grant
    Deadline: January 15 annually
  • Echologics Scholarship - NEW for 2012
    Provides one-time support to a graduate student seeking a degree in mechanical engineering with an emphasis in acoustics and a strong interest in sustainability and water infrastructure.  Echologics, a Mueller Water Products Company will assist the recipient with travel costs to the AWWA annual conference where the award will be presented.
    Support: $5,000 one-time grant
    Deadline: January 15 annually

Academic Achievement Award

The Academic Achievement Award encourages academic excellence by recognizing contributions to the field of public water supply. All Masters theses and doctoral dissertations that are relevant to the water supply industry are eligible. The manuscript must reflect the work of a single author and be submitted during the competition year in which it was submitted for the degree.
Doctoral Dissertation
First Place: $3,000 one-time award
Second Place: $1,500 one-time award
Masters Thesis
First Place: $3,000 one-time award
Second Place: $1,500 one-time award
Deadline: October 1 annually
