Get Involved/Volunteer

There are many ways to get involved to help AWWA advance its mission, from volunteering to serve on councils, divisions and committees to contributing articles to AWWA publications to making presentations at our conferences to simply adding your two bits to the community conversation. This site aims to help AWWA members identify opportunities to get involved!

"It's gratifying to be involved in an organization that notes industry issues and takes action to address those issues."

Jane Evancho
13-year volunteer

"Get involved as soon as possible and stay involved. Your involvement is valued and will make a difference."

Terrace Stewart
7-year volunteer

"When I look back over my career, I don't think of all the details we considered in all of our committee meetings. I think of the friends I have made, the collection of accomplishments, and that we, as an interested and active group, have made the industry better today than the way we found it."

Marlay Price
22-year volunteer

"The extra effort in doing volunteer work reaps great benefits in both the finished product and the enjoyment of working with fine, diverse people."

Bob Beringer
22-year volunteer

"I wanted to get active in the Texas Section and someone told me the fastest way to do that was to get myself a job. I did, and here I am, 15 years and many, many jobs later. My AWWA involvement has enhanced my life. It has become part of who I am."

Katie McCain
15-year volunteer

Volunteers are the cornerstone on which AWWA was built. Throughout AWWA's history, volunteer units including councils, committees and sections, have driven advances in both the Association and in the water industry.

There are over 250 volunteer units that provide opportunities for service. Take a moment to review the online list of AWWA Committees and Councils and their respective home pages, which include mission statements and staff contact information. Also, click on the Volunteer button on the home page of Streamlines to learn of current volunteer opportunities.

When you find something that strikes your interest, complete and submit an online volunteer application form

Also check our online resources to identify and directly contact staff who manage committees that develop AWWA Standards (.xls file) and AWWA Manuals of Water Supply Practice.

And if you are an AWWA member age 35 and under or new to the water industry working for utilities, regulatory agencies, consulting firms, or academic institutions, check out the AWWA Young Professionals Committee!

Who are we looking for? What's required of volunteers? These and other important questions are answered in our Volunteers Q&A.
