AWWA Government Affairs Office in Washington, DC, is close to the White House, Capitol Hill and the US Environmental Protection Agency — the government entities that are the focus of most of its attention. The Washington staff, led by Deputy Executive Director Tom Curtis, coordinates its activities with the Water Utility Council (WUC). Together they develop programs to initiate, evaluate, respond, and comment -- within the framework of Association policy -- on legislative, regulatory, and other matters that affect water utilities. The Government Affairs Office assists in framing legislation and helps members strategically position and explain issues to regulatory agencies. It also organizes the annual Water Matters!
