Spiders: high tech water catchers

Return to most recent posts

There's an interesting story on the BBC website today about how spider silk alters itself to catch water droplets, and how that technology might be used in future to develop man-made fibers that will help water collection in dry areas by stretching out nets, or canvas, on poles and using the mesh to catch moisture from mists or breezes. The runoff would then be collected in a pipe or a trough on the ground.
